When your wedding flowers arrive they are photographed and inventoried, then the arrangement is taken apart and pre-treated to help retain each blooms shape and color. Treatments will vary depending on the type of flower. They are then placed in trays and go through a deep freezing process before they can be freeze-dried. A single freeze-dryer can hold between six to eight thousand blooms. Because this process is extremely time sensitive, our service works locally preserving flowers from weddings in and surrounding Greenwich, CT and Manhattan, NYC as well as other parts of CT and NY.
Once completely frozen, the flowers are transferred and held in the freeze-dry chamber at minus 20 degrees. We start a vacuum pump and the process of sublimation begins. The vacuum pump slowly pulls the moisture and ice crystals out of the flower cells.
Under a vacuum, the ice crystals melt at different temperatures going from a solid to a gas without going through a liquid phase. The gas is drawn to another chamber and condenses back to ice. Because of this process, their shape and natural color are maintained. When fully dry, the flowers are removed and post treated before being arranged to create the finished piece.
